Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
24 egg roll wrappers
12 slices American cheese
3/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
How to Prepare Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls:
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef, keeping the pieces as large as possible, for about 5 to 7 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir gently and remove the mixture from the pan.
Melt butter in the skillet. Add chopped onion and bell pepper; cook and stir until browned, around 5 to 7 minutes. Return the beef mixture to the skillet and stir to combine. Allow the filling to cool while preparing the wrappers.
Lay egg roll wrappers on a flat surface. Place half a slice of American cheese on each wrapper and add 3 tablespoons of the filling on top. Fold the bottom left corner over the filling, fold in the two sides, moistening the edges with water as you go, and roll tightly.
Heat about 1 inch of oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Fry 3 to 4 egg rolls at a time until browned, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Repeat with the remaining egg rolls.
Tips for the Best Philly Egg Rolls:
Steak: Opt for ribeye, flank steak, or even ground hamburger. Cut the steak into bite-sized pieces for easier eating and filling.
Cheese: Experiment with provolone slices, Swiss, or pepper jack cheese for added variety.
Peppers and Onions: Enhance the color palette by using red, yellow, or orange peppers. Consider using a red onion and chop them into bite-sized pieces for convenience.
Wrappers: Don’t fret about folding the egg rolls; follow the instructions on the package. Ensure a secure seal by using a bit of water on the edges.
Sauce: These egg rolls are perfect for dipping. Explore various options such as your favorite cheese sauce, ranch dressing, horseradish sauce, or BBQ sauce.
